Estuary Management Plan
FREMP > Estuary Management Plan > Orthophotos 2002

New aerial photos of the Fraser River were flown in April 2002 by FREMP. These photos have now been converted to orthophotos (geo-referenced digital photos). Although the orthophotos are not online, they are available for purchase through the FREMP office. Information on coverage and specifications, as well as a price list, are indicated below and as attached.

In the interest of integrated management of the Fraser River, FREMP has arranged to keep the cost of purchase low. Anyone interested in acquiring the orthophotography will be required to sign a “use agreement” with FREMP. They may then purchase the photos for a retrieval fee of $50 and media costs ($10/CD or $45 to load a hard drive supplied by the purchaser). These rates will be available until to December 31, 2003.

Coverage:

The FREMP Area. Specifically, this encompasses: Boundary Bay, including the mouths of the Serpentine and Nicomekl Rivers to the junction of these Rivers with Highway 99; the mouth of the Fraser River, including Sturgeon Bank (north to the tip of Point Grey) and Roberts Bank (south to the U.S. Border); the North and South Arms of the Fraser River; the Main Stem of the Fraser River east to the mouth of Kanaka Creek; and Pitt River from the confluence with the Fraser River northward to, and including, the mouth of Pitt Lake.

An upland area of at least 1 kilometre from the shoreline or dyke has been included as has the full extent of the Boundary Bay, Sturgeon Banks and Roberts Banks mudflats. Note that there are “holes” in upland coverage in the some areas as shown above; these have been filled with black and white imagery from 1999. The product you receive will therefore be a composite of the 2002 colour photos covering the FREMP area and black and white infill photos from 1999 for the rest of the lower mainland.
