FREMP
> Estuary Management Plan
The Estuary
Management Plan (EMP) is the roadmap to a living working river.
It is similar in scope and purpose to a municipality's community
plan. Originally approved in 1994, the EMP was updated in 2003 to
reflect the changes in the estuary and include new objectives and
actions. The updated EMP will guide FREMP and partner activities
into the future.
The
EMP:
- provides
a common basis for reviewing development proposals in the Estuary;
and,
- outlines
local planning and resource management actions that will guide
current and future water, shoreline, and upland use in the Estuary.
The
Plan brings together, in one overall strategy:
- ongoing
FREMP programs and guidelines;
- the
plans and activities of municipalities and port authorities;
- the
management activities and programs of federal and provincial governments;
and
- policy
and programs of the Greater Vancouver Regional District's (GVRD)
Livable Region Strategic Plan and the Liquid Waste Management
Plan.
The
updated Estuary Management Plan was approved by the partners in
2003. Municpal endorsements are now being sought.
