Recreation
FREMP > Estuary Management Plan > Action Programs > Recreation

In addition to being a crucial zone for many aquatic and terrestrial species and an important transfer point for water-dependent industry, the water's edge is an attractive and fascinating place for people who want to relax, exercise, enjoy nature, learn more about the region's history or economic importance to the river.

The EMP sets out objectives to:

  • create new parks and green spaces along the estuary and develop greenways to link these
  • develop a water-based recreation plan for the estuary

Through FREMP and its partners, the regional parks system has expanded and many areas along the River now provide public access for recreation.
