As of January 1, 2008, the new Vancouver Fraser Port Authority takes over as the new entity, replacing the Vancouver Port Authority, the Fraser River Port Authority and the North Fraser Port Authority. More information will be forthcoming.
The Port of
Vancouver is Canada's largest port. The port operations are located
primarily in Burrard Inlet, however there are terminals on Roberts
Bank in the Strait of Georgia. The Vancouver
Port Authority wants to establish Vancouver as the port of choice
on the west coast of North America.
Their
mission is to facilitate and expand the movement of cargo and passengers
through the Port of Vancouver; to provide facilities, services and
technologies that are competitive, safe, commercially viable, dependable
and customer-oriented; and, to operate with broad public support
in the best interests of Canadians.
Vancouver Port Authority and BIEAP
Port
Vancouver's proprietary jurisdiction includes the water and a good
portion of the shoreline of Burrard Inlet east of the mouth of Capilano
River including the Inner Harbour, Second Narrows, the Central Harbour,
Port Moody Arm and Indian Arm. In addition to proprietary jurisdiction,
Port Vancouver's navigational jurisdiction includes English Bay,
Boundary Bay, and Sturgeon and Roberts Banks down to the U.S. Border
but not including the mouths of the Fraser River North and Main
Arms. In Burrard Inlet, the majority of the waterfront industries
and terminals are tenants of Port Vancouver.
The
Port of Vancouver operates under the Canada
Marine Act, and is a responsible agency under the Canadian
Environmental Assessment Act (CEAA).
The
Port of Vancouver plays an active part on a variety of committees
within BIEAP, including the Partners Committee, the Management Committee
and other technical and assessment committees.
