Navigable Waters Protection Division

Transport Canada is BIEAP's newest partner as of 2005.

They are represented by
the Navigable Waters Portection Division (NWPD), who play an important role on the Burrard Environmental Review Committee. As the administrator of the Navigable Waters Protection Act the NWPD routinely conducts navigational impact assessments along with added environmental assessment responsibilities.

The Navigable Waters Protection Act regulates the construction of works to protect the public right of navigation in all navigable waters in Canada. This act applies to all proposed or existing works constructed in, on, over, under or through any navigable waterways, and to any obstructions to navigation such as sunken vessels or debris.
